6. Indigenising Japanese language curriculum: Building learning resources to connect Indigenous cultures and histories in Australia and Japan
Project title: | Indigenising Japanese language curriculum: Building learning resources to connect Indigenous cultures and histories in Australia and Japan |
Hours of engagement & delivery mode |
6 July – 24 July (3 weeks). 30 hrs per week. On-site only. Including daily in-person meetings at St Lucia campus.
|
Description: | There has been a growing desire to learn about the languages, cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander at all educational levels. One of the challenges in embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural capability in language curricula is that it inevitably involves introducing the cultures and histories of the Indigenous peoples of the target language. Japan has Indigenous peoples, Ainu and Okinawans, although it has long presented itself as an ethnically homogeneous country. This project explores how we could build learning resources that connect Indigenous cultures and histories in Australia and Japan for Japanese language classes. |
Expected learning outcomes and deliverables: | Depending on the Winter scholars’ individual interest and strength, they will gain experience of library search including multimedia, Japanese/English document translation, and development of teaching materials. |
Suitable for: | This project is suitable for students with advanced Japanese language skills and interest in Japanese language education. |
