Engage in a formal research project over the winter break with the UQ Winter Research Program.

The UQ Winter Research Scholarship Program offers scholarships to students wishing to gain experience working alongside a researcher in a formal research environment in their area of interest at UQ.

Each project will be offered for a period of four (4) weeks between 29 June to 24 July 2026.

Successful applicants will receive a $2,000 grant.

Participation is open to undergraduate (including honours) and master by coursework students who are currently enrolled and will remain at UQ for the entirety of the research program.

2. Data Analysis in Korean language use by Korean background speakers

Data Analysis in Korean language use by Korean background speakers

The project will be offered through a hybrid arrangement (online + St.Lucia campus).

Description:

This project focuses on organizing and analysing research data related to the Korean background speakers’ experience. Students will primarily work on organising and conducting simple analyses of survey and interview data. Through this work, students will develop the ability to conduct quantitative research using data organization and basic statistics. Additionally, by analysing interview data, students will enhance their understanding of qualitative research. This project is an excellent opportunity for those planning to pursue MA or PhD research in the future.

Expected learning outcomes and deliverables:

  • Develop skills in data organization and basic statistical analysis for quantitative research.
  • Enhance understanding of qualitative research through interview data analysis.
  • Gain practical experience that will be beneficial for future MA or PhD research.
  • Students may be expected to produce a report at the end of the project.

Suitable for:

This project is open to UQ 3rd and 4th year students who are organized, responsible, and proficient in English. Knowledge of Korean is advantageous but not mandatory. A background in language education or applied linguistics is a plus. The project is seeking one (1) student.
