5. Developing e-Dictionaries

COVID-19 considerations: The project can be completed under a remote working arrangement but may become face to face if restrictions are lifted.
Description:
This project forms a part of the ILA project ‘The Land Still Speaks: Making First Nations Dictionaries’. It will involve converted five existing dictionaries of Ngumpin languages from the Northern Territory and WA (Gurindji, Bilinarra, Ngarinyman, Mudburra and Ngardi) into e-dictionaries with images and a click and hear function which will be hosted online.

20 hours per week
Expected outcomes and deliverables:
Summer Research scholars will gain hands on experience in using dictionary-making software common to field linguistics. They will also become familiar with linguistic annotation tools and elicitation methodologies. The end result will be five searchable, talking e-dictionaries transcripts.
Suitable for:
This project is open to applications from advanced students with a background in Linguistics and an interest in fieldwork, and Australian languages. Indigenous applicants are particularly encouraged to apply.
