The Graduate Certificate was designed by Indigenous Language specialists exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to come together and learn the skills to revitalise and advocate for strong Language Communities.

You'll develop the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to analyse, research, teach and learn your Language, while building a critical awareness of the social, cultural and political issues important to Languages, Language advocates and Language professionals. You’ll strengthen your project design and management skills by creating community-focused Language research and resources for use in your own Language context.

Students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate will be invited to apply for a fee-free bursary.

Studying in the Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Language Revitalisation

You’ll take four core courses to complete the Graduate Certificate.

Each course is taught through weekly on-line 1-2 hour seminars and a 1 week intensive on campus. Dates are set for 2024-2025.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for entry, you'll need to be an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person *

You'll also need:

  • bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, or
  • completed post-secondary studies plus two years full-time equivalent, relevant professional and/or community experience (see below), or
  • five years full-time equivalent, relevant professional and/or community experience (see below).

*Applicants are required to provide evidence of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status. A confirmation of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander status identity under the Common Seal of a community organisation may be provided. Where exceptional circumstances apply, a Statutory Declaration with supporting materials may be considered. Original or certified copies of confirmation documents and/or supporting materials relevant to your identity must be provided. Certified copies must be witnessed by a Justice of the Peace (JP).

Post-secondary studies refers to any Australian Quality Framework Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 qualification; for example: Certificate III/IV/Diploma/Advanced Diploma.

Relevant professional and/or community experience includes:

  • involvement in own Indigenous language work or community work that incorporates Indigenous languages; students will need to submit a CV or personal statement.
