New Australian Ambassador to Russia Peter Tesch

School of Languages and Cultures Alumnus Mr Peter Tesch has been appointed as Australia's Ambassador to Russia.

Mr Tesch commenced his appointment in January, replacing Paul Myler, who had been in the role since 2013.

The role also includes non-resident accreditation to Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Mr Tesch holds a BA (Hons) from UQ, where he majored in German and Russian - taught at the School of Languages and Cultures.

He has previously served as the Ambassador to Germany and the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as Third Secretary at the Australian Embassy in Moscow, Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in New York and was most recently head of the International Security Division for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
