3. Making First Nations eDictionaries
Project duration:
8 weeks 29 November - 24 December 2021; 3 - 28 January 2022
Description:
This project will involve further developing the Ngarinyman and Waanyi dictionaries and converting the Gurindji, Bilinarra, Mudburra and Ngarinyman paper dictionaries into mobile apps with images and a click and hear function which will be hosted online.
Expected outcomes and deliverables:
Summer Research scholars will gain hands on experience in using dictionary-making software common to field linguistics. They will also become familiar with linguistic annotation tools and elicitation methodologies. The end result will be five searchable, talking dictionary apps.
Suitable for:
This project is open to applications from advanced students with a background in Linguistics and IT, and First Nations languages. Indigenous applicants are particularly encouraged to apply.
