6. Disrupting Intersectional Exclusion in Language Learning Through OERs

Project title:

Disrupting Intersectional Exclusion in Language Learning Through OERs

Hours of engagement & delivery mode

Approx. 25 hours a week x 3 weeks commencing Monday 24 June – Friday 12 July 2024

Description:

This research project seeks to address the critical gap in language education that perpetuates intersectional exclusion in learning resources, particularly, from beginner language learning levels. Traditional language learning resources, including commercially available textbooks, have historically centred privileged narratives, thereby marginalizing diverse voices and experiences. This project aims to explore and expand the role of Open Educational Resources (OER) in challenging these entrenched biases and fostering a critical, decolonial, intersectionally inclusive language learning environment.

Expected learning outcomes and deliverables:

The selected winter scholar will gain skills in relation to review of relevant literature (both academic and language learning textbooks); preparing annotated bibliographies, and assisting in the development of a critical discourse analytical framework.

Suitable for:

This project is open to applications from 3rd year students with a background in languages education and/or (applied) linguistics.

Primary Supervisor:
