1. What’s the CEFR?

The CEFR is an internationally recognised framework for benchmarking language proficiency. It identifies six levels of competence, from A1 (absolute beginner) to C2 (mastery similar to that of an educated native speaker):

The CEFR uses “can do” statements to describe proficiency, e.g. “I can enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar” (for B1 level in Spoken Interaction).
