Since 1998, more than 100 startup companies have been created based on UQ intellectual property addressing societal, healthcare and environmental needs. Together with UQ’s commercialisation company UniQuest, these companies have gone on to raise more than $630 million to translate and deliver these discoveries to the world.
Associate Professor Michael Harrington, Deputy Head of School, School of Languages and Cultures along with Mr Vikram Goyal, Senior Systems Analyst at Red Hat, received accolades and a memento award at this celebration event. They were leaders of a team that developed Language-MAP, a multimedia online language assessment program that provides a fast and efficient measure of second language vocabulary knowledge.
The development of the program was funded by industry partners, including Telstra and Milton College in Sydney. It has been used for testing and language program placement in universities and language schools in Australia, the USA, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore and Oman. Ms Sarina Hobbin, HASS Research Partnerships, was also closely involved in the development of program.
