We have had the pleasure of hosting three brilliant scholars this month: Professor Jeffrey Angles (Western Michigan University), a renowned specialist in Japanese literature, Professor Yifeng Sun (University of Macau), a distinguished scholar in translation, and Professor Phil Powrie (University of Surrey), a world leading scholar in French cinema. Their public lectures and workshops with staff and students in our School have all been very well received. You can read more about their visits in this issue of InFocus, as well as about our recent T&I Forum.
We are also delighted to let you know about some exciting forthcoming events, including a series of three conferences (2020-2022) that we have been awarded to host, as well as a new Asian Studies Research Camp next year for students who have aspirations to undertake research, along with forthcoming talks that will be held this year.
Finally, we would like to warmly congratulate Professor Roly Sussex on receiving a highly prestigious national award from the French government for his lifetime of service to the promotion of French language and culture. We would also like to congratulate Umme Salma and Kim Seonkyeong on their success as inaugural fellows in the Graduate Digital Research Fellowship Program, and Shixin Song and Monica Waung who were recently awarded the AUSIT student excellence award. Please join me in congratulating them on their wonderful achievements.
