Our projects and partners
2026 Gunya language documentation project, led by Emily Montgomery, Graduate Certificate in Indigneous Language Revitalisation alumni. It is supported by the ILR and UQ Winter and Summer scholar Haise Yip.
2026 Mapoon Lingo documentation project, in collaboration with the Mapoon Language Committee and Indigenous Knowledge Centre co-ordinated by Jason Jia, at Mapoon, with support from historian Geoff Wharton, ILR team member Janet Watts and UQ Summer scholar Amanda Wenda. The project commenced in 2024 with consultations and review of the extensive Mapoon video project.
2025 Ngadjon language workshop at Malanda, in collaboration with Choorechillum PBC. Ngadjon elders and Malanda ranger group members took part in a language workshop in May, with archival research follow-up by Des Crump and Samantha Disbray.
2024 On-Country workshop at Lightning Ridge, with Gamilaraay/Yuwaalaraay/Yuwaalayaay and Muruwari Community Language workers and was co-delivered by local Language experts Priscilla Strasek and Liz Smith. View Lightning Ridge Report here.

Industry partnerships
2023 The team was contracted by the New South Wales Aboriginal Language Trust (ALT) and the Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School to co-develop a literature review on good practice in immersion program delivery. The report was delivered and presented to the ALT and Freedom School staff and members of Bularri Muurlay Nyanggan Aboriginal Corporation at a Community meeting in Coffs Harbour in February 2024.
