This FREE screening of 'かぐや姫の物語 (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya)' will be introduced by Dr Lucy Fraser, Lecturer in Japanese at the School of Languages and Cultures, University of Queensland.

This heartrending adaption of the 10th century Japanese story ‘The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter’ by Grave of the Fireflies director Isao Takahata is a tour de force of Studio Ghibli animation. When a humble bamboo cutter finds a miniature girl inside an enchanted bamboo shoot, he and his wife attempt to raise her as the princess they believe her to be. Still holding the record as the most expensive Japanese film made to date, each frame of this film about the value of freedom and love above riches is exquisitely realised.
