3. Data analysis on EFL students’ motivation (quantitative and qualitative analysis)

Project duration: 4 weeks (24 June - 19 July 2019) 20 hours per week

Description: 

• The project aims to examine the English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ motivational factors, demotivational factors and resilience, in relation to their English proficiency (by self-reporting).
• Research questions:
1. What are the subcomponents of EFL learners’ motivation, demotivation, and resilience?
2. What are the structural relationships among foreign language learning motivation, demotivation, resilience, and English proficiency among university-level EFL learners in Korea?
• Approximately 200 students enrolled in English courses at Hannam University in South Korea completed a survey last year. 
• The survey consisted of approximately 120 items on 5 Likert-scale with 12 short-answer questions (answered in Korean).

Expected outcomes and deliverables:

• Compiling the survey responses into Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 
• Running descriptive data analysis, correlations, and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) 
• Summarising the findings with proper interpretations of statistical analysis 
• Compiling the short-answer responses (in Korean) and finding the main topics/themes for qualitative analysis
