Please join us as we celebrate more than 110 years of teaching and learning German at The University of Queensland and the 10th anniversary of the UQ German Club.

About the event

Hosted by UQ German Club (UQGC) in conjunction with The University of Queensland (UQ) and supported by the German Embassy Australia and the UQ Association of Postgraduate Students, we proudly present ‘German at UQ - Celebrating Milestones' Inaugural Anniversary and Alumni Gala Dinner.

This year marks significant events for the German community at UQ. Not only is it ten years since the foundation of the current UQ German Club but we also recognise 50 years since the creation of its predecessor, the UQ German Society. 2022 also marks over 110 years of German teaching and learning at The University of Queensland.

To recognise these achievements we are delighted to invite you to attend our anniversary gala and inaugural alumni dinner on 9th October 2022 with a formal dinner at another great UQ institution, Customs House.

This special evening, will feature a two-course dinner, reflections on UQ's German history, live performances, awards of recognition and an exciting keynote speech from UQ German Alumnus, Mr Peter Tesch, Former Australian Ambassador to Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

UQ German Language Prize

During the night, we will also be launching the UQ German Language Prize, an award that recognises the legacy of UQ German students and staff who have made a significant impact on the discipline including founding staff member Hermiene Ulrich who is the first female to teach at UQ.

If you are unable to attend, we would be grateful if you would consider contributing to the success of future students studying German at UQ by making a donation to this prize.
