The School of Languages and Cultures Asian Studies Research Camp is a new opportunity for students interested in Asia to develop their skills and research potential. To be held over 3 days/2 nights, the camp will comprise of workshops with experts, interactive writing sessions, as well as small-group and individual mentoring activities.

The camp will be held at The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus from Wednesday 13 – Friday 15 February 2019. Successful applicants will have all costs associated with the camp covered, including all meals and accommodation. Successful applicants must be available for, and take part in, all activities over the three days. Students must provide their own transport to and from the camp. 

The Asian Studies Research Camp is organised by the School of Languages and Cultures, and generously funded by the J M Campbell Bequest. 

Who should apply?

The camp is designed for students with an interest in Asia, including Asian cultural studies, Asian politics, Asian history and Asian languages. Over the three days, you will have a unique opportunity to work closely with experts to develop your own research and career plans.

In particular, you should apply if:

  • You have a strong interest in Asia
  • You are enrolled/want to enrol in Honours in an Asia-related area at The University of Queensland
  • You are a 2nd year (or above) student, and studying courses on Asia
  • You meet the eligibility criteria

Students interested in this opportunity should submit an application by 5:00pm, Friday 26 October 2018. Students will be provided advice regarding the outcome of their application in mid-November 2018. 

Eligibility criteria 

Students interested in applying for the Asian Studies Research Camp at The University of Queensland will be required to provide evidence and demonstrate the following:

1. Enrolment as an undergraduate (2nd year and above) or honours student at The University of Queensland

2. A history of excellent academic performance through an academic transcript (5.5 GPA) and letter of recommendation

3. A strong interest in the study of Asia

4. Ability to attend and participate in the entire program

Note: Previous Asian language study/experience is preferable, but not essential.
