Visiting researchers Associate Professor Anne McKnight (Shirayuri University, Tokyo), Dr Emerald King (LaTrobe University, Melbourne), and Dr Masafumi Monden (University of Technology), together with UQ School of Languages and Cultures scholars, will lead a masterclass on:

• Researching Japanese culture from outside of Japan: theoretical and practical concerns

• Researching Japanese culture in Japan

• The transdisciplinary, transcultural, and translingual aspects of shōjo studies

• Future research topics in international shōjo studies

This will be followed by the opportunity for participants to seek individual advice on their projects from experts and emerging specialists. The session is designed to encourage networking and mentoring.
